Thulasi is the herbal plant known by all of us because it is worshipped and also used for pooja. People usually forget about what asset they are having and research about something rare and only available in remote area. Likewise, Thulasi is forgotten by all of us as a very good herbal, but only used by us to prepare for Vishnu Pooja.

Thulasi is the name in Tamil and it pronounce same in most of the Indian Languages. Holy Basil is the name in English. Ocimum Tenuiflorum is the Botanical Name. As per ancient Siddha texts, it can be classified into Thulasi, Senthulasi (Red Thulasi), Karunthulasi(Black Basil), Nilathulasi, Naithulasi, Kalthulasi, Multhulasi. It is also considered that the plant Thiruneetrupachilai also belongs to Thulasi Family.

Usually Thulasi can be used as home remedy for Cold, Chest cold, Cough, Wheezing and other mucus, respiratory related diseases. It can also be used as a cure for small health issues like Fever, Headache.

It is considered to increase heart health, prevent aging. Somebody considers that Thulasi contains several acid which can helps us to dissolve small stones in our kidney. It also balance tridoshas of our body according to Ayurvedic.

Thulasi leaves, if soaked in our water pot, the extract of Thulasi will be mixed with the water. That water is good for our health. There is no need to consume Thulasi as a separate herb. This water alone is enough.

Here is a herb called Stevia, sweet in taste, used as an alternative for sugar, imported from Brazil and several other countries, is called in the name Seeni Thulasi in Tamil, Sweet Basil in English. But it does not belongs to Thulasi family.

Nowadays, there is a research called as Stem Cell research in modern medical research, in which the stem cells taken from our placenta at the time of birth is preserved, and those cells can be used to cure the man, when he is severely affected by a disease, and also to treat failed body parts.

But our ancestors used the same technique of preserving our placenta, and using it for treating diseases. For that, they used Thulasi leaves along with the placenta.
