Vembalam Pattai - Myths behind Alkanet Roots

There is a Herbal Roots called as Vembalam Pattai in Tamil which is famous among ladies. It is called as Alkanet Roots in English and Ratanjot roots in Hindi.

People believes that Alkanet Roots helps us to increase hair density, increase strength of our hair, heal wounds, and acts as an anti ageing agent. These benefits are written in various blogs and vlogs in the internet.

Actually, Vembalam Pattai is not having those all benefits mentioned above. There are certain kinds of pigments called as Alkanine those does not dissolve in water but dissolves well in Alcohol and in Ether. So it dissolves in Coconut oil also.

Vembalam Pattai extracted Coconut Oil contains pH ranges from 6.1 to 9.0. It is like a weak acid in pH Range 6-7 and like a weak base in pH Range 7-9 which is nearly same as water. When Alkanine available in Vembalam Pattai dissolves in Coconut oil, it gives a light purple colour and also enhances the darkish colour of our hair when applied.

As the pigments available in Alkanet Roots are not harmful, it is also being used by our people to colourize food items, to paint wooden artifacts, and also as in lipsticks. It is only a very good pigment, thats it. It is not having a ability to strengthen our hair, to induce hair growth, and to increase hair density.

As it is not so used in olden periods, there is no mention of Alkanet Roots in ancient Siddha and Ayurveda Texts. It is now also growing in Himalaya Regions and in Western Countries only.
